New reports from Italy suggest that Tokenfarm, a local startup using VeChain’s ToolChain technology to track agricultural products, will be at the center of a new milestone agreement involving the country’s national farm for farm entrepreneurs.
According to Republica, an Italian news source, Coldiretti, Italy’s premier agricultural association, has partnered with Princes Industrie Alimentari, a company with the largest tomato processing facility in Europe, to promote domestic tomatoes.
As part of the pilot project, which will then be tested along the entire agricultural supply chain, the new partners will trace tomatoes as they are transported from the farm to the processing plants and then to the end users, thus promoting transparency and trust in the quality of these agricultural products.
Tokenfarm’s executive director Pier Luigi Romiti also reportedly mentioned that the three-year contract to launch the pilot would include “300 companies, 17 consortia and 6 producer associations”. Tokenfarm will use VeChain’s ToolChain to optimize internal and external product tracking
The princes alone currently process more than 3 million tons of tomatoes per year in their factories. The aim of the pilot project is to test and replicate the model on an even larger scale in the coming years.
Romiti added in a roughly translated version of the report:
It will obviously be an experiment that will be open for several years as we have to perfect the blockchain with our partner Vechain. In the meantime, the first experiment has convinced us that it is the right way to go: we pay more for the tomato and guarantee its quality.
VeChain prepared for corporate adoption – Sunny Lu
The news of Tokenfarm’s recent partnership with Italy’s leading organization follows recent statements by VeChain founder Sunny Lu that the project could overtake Ethereum in the future due to its corporate readiness.
Sunny Lu had also said the project is on the right track, while reaching 1 million transactions daily on the VeChain Thor network would be a “small success”.
