Audi has presented its fully electric Q4 e-tron and the Q4 e-tron Sportback, which will be available on the European market by June 2021. While it is very likely that either of them will be launched in the Indian market, it is highly unlikely that both will.
Audi has got the fully electric crossover SUVs – the Q4 e-tron and the Q4 e-tron Sportback – under control. As the name suggests, the latter has an unconventional design for an SUV and a more SUV-coupe-like design language. The Audi Q4 e-tron sits between the Audi Q3 and Audi Q5 that were sold in the Indian market. The e-tron suffix in the name indicates that the Q4 is only available with an electric powertrain.
Both the Q4 e-tron and the Q4 e-tron Sportback have the same mechanics and power source. Both models are offered in three variants – Audi Q4 35 e-tron, Audi Q4 40 e-tron and Audi Q4 50 e-tron. While the first two are offered as rear-wheel drive, the latter 50 variant receives an all-wheel-drive layout (Quattro).
The battery size offered in the Q4 35 e-tron is 52 kWh, while the Q4 40 e-tron has a larger 77 kWh battery. The output of the 35 version is 167 hp, while the 40 version offers 201 hp. Both variants offer a torque of 310 Nm. The Q4 35 e-tron shoots from 0 to 100 km / h in 9 seconds, while the more powerful Q4 40 e-tron makes the same sprint in 8.5 seconds. The claimed range of the Audi Q4 40 e-tron is 520 km, while the base Q4 35 e-tron covers 341 km on a full charge (349 km for the Sportback model). The range specifications were claimed according to the WLTP cycle.
The top-of-the-line Audi Q4 50 e-tron has an asynchronous motor (ASM) for the front wheels, which in turn is reflected in an all-wheel drive train. This top-performance model achieves a higher output of 295 hp and a torque of 460 Nm. The Audi Q4 50 e-tron sprints from a standstill in 6.3 seconds at 100 km / h and reaches a top speed of 180 km / h. The drag coefficient of the Q4 e-tron is 0.28, while the drag coefficient of the Sportback is 0.26.
The function list includes a 10.25-inch display for the instrument cluster and a standard 10.1-inch MMI display for the infotainment system. Audi confirms that an optional 11.6-inch infotainment screen will be offered by the end of the year. The list continues with augmented reality and works synchronously with the head-up display. The sporty chassis, which is standard on the Sportline models, is available in every variant at an additional cost.
The Q4 twins will be introduced in Germany in June 2021. Prices start at 41,900 EUR (approx. 37.70.329 Rs) for the Q4 e-tron and 43,900 EUR (approx. 39.50.297 Rs) for the Sportback model. Audi India is preparing to launch its e-tron, and the company has teased its launch several times. The Audi e-tron is expected to be launched in India at the beginning of the third quarter of 2021 and will compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Jaguar I-Pace. The Audi Q4 e-tron and the Q4 e-tron Sportback could follow after the introduction of the e-tron India and should be positioned in a cheaper segment.
