We learned that after playing Avalanche and Blues three playoff games. The captain of the underdog should never come out publicly before the series and predict a win, especially when it comes to the team with the best record in the league. Oh, and the avalanches are really, really, really good. That’s all you need to know.
Let’s take a look at Game 4 between St. Louis and Colorado from the betting perspective with odds, tips and predictions in our Blues vs. Avalanche betting preview.
Colorado leads the series 3-0 and will compete in St. Louis this afternoon. Game 3 was set up so that St. Louis would hang their hat when they tried to go back in, and Colorado stormed the door, broke the hat rack in half, and put their skates on all of the furniture while they were at it.
That kind of killer instinct is what really good teams need to win a Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay, for example, didn’t have it in 2019 and was upset by Columbus in the first round. In 2020 they had it and won the Stanley Cup. Sometimes it’s the missing ingredient for a championship team. One thing is certain, it should not be missing from the avalanche.

Avalanche vs. Blues Game 4 betting tip (23 May 2021)
The only way for the Blues to hang out with Colorado on this series was to offensively brake the avalanche and take a few opportunities to score some on their own.
It didn’t happen – in three games Colorado beat St. Louis by a 15-5 advantage. While the first two games were closer than the final results would suggest, Game 3 was not, meaning this streak is headed in the wrong direction for the Blues, and fast.
Sometimes teams who are 3-0 down try to play their best game in Game 4, especially if it’s on home ice, so they can show some pride in front of hometown fans. But sometimes it doesn’t matter. This series now suddenly feels like the latter.

If you read us regularly (thanks) then you already know that we believe in betting with the trend. For those of you first time with us (welcome!), When a gamer gets streamed or a team keeps doing the same things over and over, we believe in riding it to the end.
Don’t be afraid that the elimination game will be the hardest to win because you know you will get the best version of your opponent. Past practice is a better predictor than rah-rah goodness of alleged tradition.
The fact is, Colorado has dominated this streak with great offense, great goalkeepers, great defensive, and there is no reason to believe that this will suddenly dry up for a game. Take the spread. Take the OVER. Both have scored in three games in a row. Combine them into a parlay and you get them at +225. That seems easy doesn’t it?

Bets we like with a blues win
Ryan O’Reilly OVER 0.5 points (-138, FanDuell)
It should be known that we don’t like a blues win here at all. O’Reilly has to save face, however, especially after the angry prediction. O’Reilly, the 2019 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the playoff MVP for the Blues, has a single assist in the series to date.
That’s one of the reasons the Blues lost 3-0.
As a captain, he has to go ahead and produce on the Pride-o-Meter. Just one more point is -138, but if you want to be a little more carefree with your bankroll you can get him to score (+240, FanDuel). There is value in O’Reilly himself, though not for the blues in general in this game.

Bets we like regardless of the outcome
No goals scored in the first 9:59 of the game (+118, DraftKings)
We like Colorado to win this game, by at least two goals and multiple goals, but in this series only one goal was scored in the first 10 minutes of a game. Both teams seem to play well defensively early on and have good goalkeepers at the start of the game. It’s not a crazy good value bet but we believe we will get it. St. Louis will certainly try to hold out defensively, while Colorado did very well defensively in the first period.
