Big Australian baseball league team Perth Heat pays players in Bitcoin and keeps BTC on balance – News Bitcoin News
One of Australia’s most successful baseball teams, the Perth Heat, is adopting the Bitcoin standard. The team will pay players and staff in bitcoin, accept cryptocurrency for payments, and keep bitcoin on their balance sheet.
The Perth Heat is operated on the Bitcoin standard
The Perth Heat, a major Australian Baseball League baseball team, announced Wednesday that it “will operate on the Bitcoin standard.”
The team, which is among the most successful in Australia, has partnered with Bitcoin payment company Opennode to accept and send Bitcoin payments powered by the Lightning Network. “In collaboration with Opennode, the Perth Heat sets Bitcoin as the new standard for payments and withdrawals,” the team wrote. According to the announcement:
Perth Heat will pay players in bitcoin, pay employees in bitcoin, accept bitcoin payments for sponsorship, merchandise and baseball franchises, [and] hodl Bitcoin on the club’s balance sheet.
Steven Nelkovski, CEO of Perth Heat, commented, “We strongly believe that the mindset that Bitcoin instills in network participants is felt by our players, coaches, staff and our loyal fan base, and we look forward to raising the bar for the value of a sport organization can contribute to a community in the Bitcoin age. “
Patrick O’Sullivan, Perth Heat’s Chief Bitcoin Officer, said:
The Perth Heat pledge to operate on a bitcoin standard, shifting the company’s coffers from dollars to bitcoin in the process.
He clarified, “The club has already built an initial position in BTC … This is not a one-time purchase to hedge against future uncertainties or inflationary pressures. The Perth Heat embrace the reality that the future of money and corporate coffers will depend on the Bitcoin blockchain. “
