Bitcoin Wealth powers floating libertarian module off the coast of Thailand

They call it the world’s first functional single-family home: a private modular house that floats in the sea.

Located 12 nautical miles off the coast of Phuket, Thailand, the single family home is both a floating home and a symbolic structure. It was designed to spark an entire libertarian movement of freedom seekers preparing to live in permanent homes at sea – outside the jurisdiction of any government.

Seasteading Institute President Joe Quirk has recorded pioneers Nadia Summergirl and her partner Chad Elwartowski, an early bitcoiner, on their quest for true freedom. The Seasteading Movement was launched by a team of volunteers, libertarians, and Bitcoin investors who are using their crypto-riches to spread a different kind of society on the high seas 60 liters of fresh water per hour.

The two-story, 64-square-foot, octagonal Seastead has been floating since February 2nd.

As reported by Reason, Elwartowski says:

“We have about a week, a week off while we take care of things on land. Last week we bought a sailboat and had the floor painted so we could have a commuter boat. After that we should be there full time. Except to visit the many islands around us. “

Elwartwoski is not afraid of cramped conditions.

“We lived in a small bungalow on Tahiti. I lived in a small box in Afghanistan for two years. There is a lot of space. Nadia likes to fish while I work on the computer either downstairs at the lake station or in the bedroom. “

The Seastead was built by Ocean Builders. The cost of a turnkey seastead and kitchen is approximately $ 200,000.

The Seasteading movement received a high-tech boost from Bitcoin supporter, PayPal co-founder and entrepreneur Peter Thiel, who was an early funder of the Seasteading Institute, a nonprofit founded in 2008 by Google software engineer Patri Friedman. The think tank explores creating floating ocean cities to alleviate some of the greatest challenges facing modern societies, from poor governance to rising sea levels and overpopulation.
