The Blues followed the 3-Seed Minnesota Wild in the final West Division standings by 12 points. One such discrepancy was evident in Game 1 of their NHL playoff series against the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avalanche. The 1: 4 defeat can certainly not be blamed on goalkeeper Jordan Binnington. He did everything he could, stopping 46 of 49 shots on goal to save 0.939 percent. Unfortunately, the Blues could only score 23 shots on goal at the other end. Binnington may have to be as perfect as it gets if St. Louis is to turn it into a series.

Game 1 was a virtual walk in the park for the gifted avalanche. The stars were on the move as Nathan MacKinnon (two goals, one assist) and Gabriel Landeskog (one goal, two assist) each scored three points. Mikko Rantanen also interfered with two assists. This type of talent has made Colorado the best record in the NHL regular betting season. Philip Grubauer stopped all but one of the shots he faced in Game 1. As long as he holds his own on the net, the Avs could be recognized as a Stanley Cup champion in about a month.
