Mumbai: Canon launched the EOS-1D X MARK II on Tuesday, the new flagship of the professional EOS DSLR models and the long-awaited successor to the EOS-1D X.
The EOS-1D X MARK II combines the latest in imaging technology and innovations from the EOS range to present a next-generation professional DSLR model that allows users to push their limits in capturing the best shots.
Developed for high-quality, high-speed photography
Not only do professionals need to be there at the right moment to capture that one-of-a-kind shot, they also need equipment fast enough to capture a fraction of a second in flawless image quality with precise focus for a perfectly composed shot – something that
The EOS-1D X Mark II captures flawless images with precise focus in fractions of a second for a perfectly composed shot. With their new 61-point AF system with selectable AF system with 41-point cross-type AF, photographers benefit from an expanded AF area compared to the EOS-1D X.
Its low intensity limit function in center AF has also been upgraded to EV-3, which ensures solid performance even in poor light and contrast conditions. Beyond the hardware, the DSLR is equipped with Al Servo AF III +, a new AF algorithm with AI servo scene analysis that improves AF precision in scenarios with fast and unexpected movements.
Since all 61 points are compatible with an effective aperture of f / 8 or faster, autofocus is also possible when using teleconverters on super telephoto lenses, devices that are common in nature and sports photography.
In addition, the mirror of the EOS-1D X Mark II is equipped with a new drive mechanism that quickly suppresses vibrations, whereby the DSLR delivers a fast frame rate of 14 frames per second with activated AF / AE tracking and an even more impressive 16 frames per second Recordings with Live View, without screen breakdown.
With a CFast 2.0 card slot for fast writing, the EOS-1D X Mark II can capture up to 170 RAW images and an unlimited number of JPEG images in burst mode.
4K image quality for EOS films
In 2012, the EOS-1D C was the first EOS DSLR with 4K movie recording. With the EOS-1D X Mark II, users can now use 4K Motion JPEG at 60 / 50p, resulting in amazingly smooth recordings.
The full HD recording function of the EOS-1D X Mark II has a new high frame rate mode that enables recording at 120/100, enabling slow motion video recording. The inclusion of a CFast slot takes these recording modes with high data rates into account.
With the Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DAF), a first in the EOS-1D series, users who use phase detection in Live View mode benefit from extremely fast autofocusing and efficient tracking of moving subjects with no aperture limitation.
The DSLR also supports EV-3 for all effective AF points within the sensor range when recording 4K movies. Similar to the EOS 7D Mark II, the EOS-1D X Mark II offers user-selectable settings for Movie Servo AF Speed and Movie Servo AF Tracking Sensitivity.
In addition, the EOS-1D X Mark II is equipped with a touch focus function for its DAF function. It allows users to switch focus easily by tapping the AF point selection LCD panel in live view mode.
The DSLR’s 4K frame grab feature also allows users to easily extract around 8.8 megapixel images in JPEG format from 4K movies recorded with the camera without the need to connect to a computer.
The camera’s ability to shoot at 60p means that sports and wildlife photographers can now select one of the sixty frames every second of the video, resulting in a much higher frame rate and improved work efficiency.
First class picture quality
The EOS-1D X Mark II breaks new ground for the EOS series with a newly developed 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, dual DIGIC 6+ image processors, improved resolution of 20.2 megapixel images and expanded ISO sensitivities of up to 409,600, one frame higher than its predecessor, the EOS1D X.

For indoor shots under artificial lighting, photographers can activate the anti-flicker mode to detect high-frequency flickering of lights and thus ensure better exposure stability. This feature can better manage irregular exposures and colors caused by flickering lights.
A new digital lens optimizer built into the camera can now process and optimize RAW images inside the camera. This editing function was previously only available in post-production and includes chromatic aberration correction, peripheral lighting correction and, for the first time in EOS history, diffraction correction.
The combination of these correction functions enables photographers to receive higher quality JPEGs directly from the camera without using a computer, enabling fast image production where time is of the essence.
By including the Fine Detail picture style, JPEG files are also made to achieve even higher levels of sharpness.
Every part of the EOS-1D X Mark II, from the mirror to the shutter mechanism, is designed to last and last, giving the DSLR a shutter life expectancy of 400,000 cycles.
The EOS-1D X Mark II is surrounded by a robust magnesium alloy housing and is dust- and drip-proof for improved protection from the elements, which is essential for reliability in the versatile work area of the professional photographer, especially for outdoor shots.
In terms of design and ergonomics, the handle and button operation have been improved for greater convenience and usability for photographers of different hand sizes.
The EOS-1D X Mark II’s control configuration also makes the horizontal and vertical layouts more similar, so shooting in either landscape or portrait format has a similar feel.
The EOS-1D X Mark II uses the K390 battery, which has a 10% higher capacity compared to the LP-E4N of the EOS-1D X and gives photographers a longer service life in the field.
Built-in GPS function and optional wireless file transmitter
For the first time in the EOS-1D series, GPS is built into the camera body. This allows all photos to be tagged with accurate location information, providing users with specific location references, especially when traveling between tasks and locations. Access to satellite clocks also ensures accurate timestamp information and allows images to be organized more efficiently.
File transfer is also a breeze with the K394 wireless file transmitter available on the EOS-1D X Mark II. The K394 supports high-speed file transfer that supports wireless LAN according to IEEE802.11a / b / g / n / ac (5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands).
When attached to the EOS-1D X Mark II, it enables a seamless wireless connection between the photographer’s smartphone and camera, allowing photographers to remotely control the camera for still image capture, movie recording, and camera-to-smartphone image transfer, all over the camera from Canon Connect app.
The EOS-1D X MARK II is also equipped with a USB 3.0 port for high-speed data transfer. The camera only costs Rs 4.55,995 for the housing. The product will be available from April.
