Elon Musk – the South African entrepreneur behind billionaire companies like SpaceX and Tesla – and Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter and Square, have agreed to meet at an upcoming conference to discuss the future of the world’s leading digital currency market capitalization.
Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey discuss BTC together
Both Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey have made huge contributions to the Bitcoin and crypto scene – in both negative and positive ways. Dorsey’s Square, for example, was one of the first institutions to pledge public support for Bitcoin and put the asset on its balance sheet. The company initially bought the roughly $ 50 million asset in late 2020 and added another $ 120 million to its list a few months ago, bringing its total Bitcoin assets to about $ 170 million.
In contrast, Elon Musk initiated an even bigger purchase in early 2021 when he decided to add approximately $ 1.5 billion worth of bitcoins to Tesla’s balance sheet. This shot BTC to a new all-time high of around $ 57,000 per unit at the time, although things have seriously turned since then, partly due to Musk’s behavior and tweets.
After that initial purchase, Musk claimed that he would allow Bitcoin-based payments for all Tesla goods and services in the future. However, he quickly overturned that decision, claiming he had concerns about the BTC mining process. This has put the world’s most important virtual asset on a downward spiral. At the time, BTC was trading in the mid-range of $ 50,000 but was quickly losing several thousand dollars.
From there, Musk hinted that he might want to part with his personal Bitcoin stash, another move that caused the currency to hit a new hook. Bitcoin had lost about half of its value since mid-April 2021 and was trading in the high range of $ 30,000. It has lost even more of its value since then.
However, both characters (Musk and Dorsey) agreed to chat with each other on July 21st at an event called “The B Word”. The discussion was first sparked by Musk, who wrote on Twitter:
The message was supposed to point to Bitcoin, and Dorsey apparently took the bait. The social media manager replied:
Bizarre! Let’s have a chat at the event. You can share all of your curiosities.
The meeting is set!
Musk then confirmed he was interested in the idea by writing the following message:
For the bit curious? All right then, let’s do it.
Dorsey responded positively, saying his team would set things up. Your chat will just be an engagement from “The B Word,” which will include a wide range of speakers and experts in the crypto industry, including Cathie Wood of Ark Invest.
