While Société Générale and Santander both previously issued bonds on the public Ethereum network, these bonds or security tokens were bought by affiliates. In contrast, the EIB bonds are sold to third parties. The amount corresponds to the first issue of a Société Générale bond, but the French bank followed suit with a second bond of $ 40 million, which was settled with a sample of the central bank’s central currency. Santander’s bond was worth USD 20 million.
Other government institutions that have introduced blockchain for bonds include the World Bank and government bonds issued by the banks of Thailand and the Philippines.
