Twitter users can now tip each other in Bitcoin via the Lightning Network, and it could help push the price of Bitcoin back up.
The tips can be sent and received virtually instantly using Bitcoin’s ultra-fast transaction mechanism, either through the Strike app or by adding a BTC address directly to your Twitter profile.
In a recent blog post, Twitter Product Manager Esther Crawford noted that the Bitcoin Tips feature is now available to iOS users, with a rollout for Android users coming in the next week or two to be expected.
“We want everyone on Twitter to have access to ways to get paid,” said Crawford. “Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send each other money across borders and with as little friction as possible – help us get there.”
According to Crawford, Twitter doesn’t cut corners when it comes to tips.
The CEO of the Strike app, Jack Mallers, showed off the new Twitter feature in action, sending a lightning-fast BTC tip to a buddy in El Salvador from a high-rise in Chicago.

The Kiwi on-chain data analyst Willy Woo is also a fan. In fact, “Bitcoin maxis” has to go crazy with the jubilation …
Western Union vs Lightning Network is like Blockbuster Video vs Netflix.
Your business relies on physical money with offices around the world.
This is ironic for a company that started out as a telecommunications company and later expanded into transferring funds. https://t.co/hZPSeg4vWL

Twitter tipping with cash has been available through other integrated services such as Bandcamp, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, WealthSimple Cash, and Venmo since May.
And Squares Cash App, founded by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, is another Twitter tipping option.
Dorsey is a huge fan of Bitcoin and has been pointing out this BTC tipping option for a while. He also recently said that Square could try to create a decentralized exchange (DEX) for Bitcoin.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin (BTC) is changing hands for $ 44,787 (+ 2.9%) and is apparently making a run to the $ 45,000 level that many crypto analysts decidedly want to see broken again feeling bullish.
