Joonas Donskoi of Colorado Avalanche among the Seattle Octopus picks in the expansion design | Sports coverage
The Colorado Avalanche lost to Joonas Donskoi in the draft expansion on Wednesday when the Seattle Kraken brought the Finns forward to complete a new roster.
The 29-year-old Donskoi scored 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists) in 51 regular season games, making the most memorable hat-trick in Avalanche history on March 31, career high. Donskoi added another five points (three goals) in the postseason.
He was often a third line winger and was sometimes used in the top power play unit. He signed a free agent deal in Colorado in 2019 after four seasons with the San Jose Sharks.
Donskoy’s departure will ease his $ 3.9 million cap over the next two seasons. The team has several potential major signings ahead of them, including unrestricted free agents Gabriel Landeskog and Philipp Grubauer and restricted free agents Cale Makar.
The signing period for free agents begins on July 28th.
The Kraken couldn’t try to negotiate a deal with the Landeskog this week. Internal negotiations with the Colorado captain can resume on Thursday.
Seattle could have taken over JT Compher or veteran defense attorney Erik Johnson, who waived his no-movement clause. Both were left unprotected.
