WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Adam Werner made 40 saves in his NHL debut and Nathan MacKinnon finished with two goals and two assists as the Colorado Avalanche extended their winning streak to three games with a 4-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

Werner’s shutout is shared with Pavel Francouz, who started but only lasted 31 seconds before injuring himself.

Francouz was run over by an unbalanced Mark Scheifele. He fell back and hit the ice with his head. Francouz went into the locker room and Werner, 22, stepped in for his first NHL game.

Rookie defender Cale Makar opened the scoring for the Avalanche (11-5-2). Joonas Donskoi had one goal and two assists and Matt Calvert provided two assists.

Makar has 18 points in 18 games to top all NHL rookies. He’s also on a four-game points streak with four goals and three assists.

It was the first time this season that the Jets (10-8-1) were suspended.

Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves for Winnipeg, which ended 2-1 on a home score of four games.

Colorado continues to overcome key player injuries.

Starting goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer missed his third game in a row with a lower body injury. He took part in some of the team’s training sessions on Monday. The top strikers Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog are still out.

Starting a five-game journey, Colorado led 1-0 after the first period and held that lead after two.

The Avalanche had two power plays in the initial phase, including Scheifeles for goalkeeping interference. Makar hit the crossbar at the second man lead.

Makar scored as he bypassed Jets striker Mathieu Perreault and paused for a moment before taking a low shot past Hellebuyck at 19:01.

Werner snapped when Winnipeg sniper Patrik Laine fired a one-timer at him during a power play in the first third.

The jets shot at goal 21-16 after the second.

MacKinnon quickly put the Avalanche 2-0 up when he scored his 10th of the season 18 seconds into the third period and added a second at 7:13. Donskoi finished the goal with a rebound goal at 13:13.

NOTES: Werner was called up on November 7th by the Eagles, Colorado’s AHL subsidiary. Towards the end of the second he faced a 2-on-1 from Scheifele and Kyle Connor and stopped a shot from Connor.
