So who is Vitalik Buterin? He is 27 years old Russian-Canadian Computer programmers and the Co-creator of Ethereum. At the age of 19, Buterin helped build the Ethereum blockchain and has been the blockchain manager since 2013.
Buterin was born in 1994 in the city of Kolomna outside Moscow. He later moved to Canada with his family and grew up in the capital, Toronto.
Vitalik’s father Dmitry was a computer scientist. It was he who introduced his son to the idea of blockchain and cryptocurrency. Dmitry encouraged his son to start building video games from the tender age of 10. In 2011, he informed him about Bitcoin and started educating him on how it works.
Apparently, 17-year-old Vitalik initially turned down the idea but gradually began to take an interest after doing his own research on virtual money.
Bitcoin was founded just two years earlier when the world was hit by a devastating 2008 financial crisis triggered by the failure of banking systems. Vitalik was taught how to exchange cash online with Bitcoin without a bank mediating the transaction. At the time, Bitcoin was considered so drastic that many thought governments would ban it, given the dark market it appeared to be supporting. Even so, it survived, trading highs of $ 19,000 that Christmas, despite a huge crash that ensued. Many people regret not having bought Bitcoin back then.
Just a year later, in 2012, at the age of 18 and while studying computer science at the University of Waterloo, Canada, Buterin co-founded (and wrote for) Bitcoin Magazine with Mihai Alisie. Mihai later founded Ethereum together with Buterin.
In 2014, Buterin was awarded the renowned Thiel Scholarship. The Thiel Scholarship awards $ 100,000 to young people under the age of 23 who want to pursue hobbies outside of mainstream science (college or university). The scholarship was founded and funded by billionaire Peter Thiel, an early investor in Facebook and a Stanford University graduate.

Buterin and his team launched Frontier as part of the so-called “barebone implementation of the Ethereum project”.
Development for the first Ethereum network was crowdfunded in 2014, and the first version went live in 2015 with an initial shipment of 72 million Ether coins, the platform’s native cryptocurrency.
