With the Nissan Terra, Nissan has presented its 7-seater SUV with body-on-frame for the Philippine market. The Terra is based on the Navara pick-up and is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine with 190 hp and 450 Nm. This is paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic.
Top models receive all-wheel drive with switchable modes, a reduction ratio, a rear limited-slip differential and a hill descent aid. The basic variants receive a setup with rear-wheel drive.
As expected, the interior of the car is heavily influenced by the Navara, higher equipment features LED leather headlights, seats, cruise control, Apple CarPlay, along with an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and keyless entry and go. Lower class cars get manual adjustment, fabric panels and a simpler instrument panel.
When it comes to safety, the Terra offers six airbags and electronic aids such as traction control, stability control and ABS. In addition to a 360-degree camera and parking sensors, driver aids such as lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic warning are offered.
Bookings for the Terra have started in the Philippines and deliveries will begin in August. This SUV is a viable option for India as it is similar in specification and construction to SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavor and Isuzu MU-X. These cars appeal to Indian buyers for their ruggedness, ride quality and presence. Nissan misses an upscale SUV in its Indian lineup and an RHD version of the Terra should perfectly fill that hole when it hits the market.
