Police officers use steamroller to smash Bitcoin mining rigs

– A devastating defeat for bitcoin miners in Malaysia: Miri city authorities deployed a steamroller to dismantle 1,069 bitcoin mining rigs in the police station parking lot, reports CNBC. The machines, which solve complex equations to unlock blocks of the cryptocurrency, have been used in illegal operations that stole around $ 2 million of electricity from power lines, authorities say. Police say the arrested miners, who will spend eight months in jail, also burned three houses while stealing electricity for the energy-intensive process, reports PCMag.
