Polkadot (DOT) and Kusama blockchain developers have entered the final stage of preparation for the launch of the much-anticipated Parachain functionality announcement published yesterday by creator Gavin Wood.
And Proposition 110 passed! The deployment will be completed in two hours and if all goes well we will see the first blocks on a live parachute from @kusamanetwork. Here is an article with more details: https://t.co/xTbFtx2GPI pic.twitter.com/3bLOjvi9KN

“The launch of Polkadot began about ten months ago with the first four phases. The last step – a step towards complete decentralization and without permission – finally took place at the end of July last year. Now, in the fifth phase, the final phase of the Polkadot launch begins, ”Wood wrote.
Final preparations
Parachutes are individual Layer 1 blockchains that can run in parallel within the Polkadot ecosystem, including the “Canarian Network” Kusama. All are connected to the central relay chain to increase security, scalability and interoperability.
According to the Medium post titled “Parachute Launch,” two important steps must be taken before parachute launch is complete. First, there needs to be an external audit of all new features – and it’s already started, Wood noted, and should “be completed in the near future.”
Simultaneously, a “live-fire” parachute test will begin in Kusama, Polkadot’s cousin network, which is being used to experiment with new features. This includes “at least one successful auction with crowdloans and at least one working parachute”.
“The road to getting everything going on Kusama has already begun and is expected to be completed in three steps in the coming days,” added Wood.

Full speed ahead
The first two of these steps are to provide an empty “shell” parachain that has no real functionality and then update it.
“We will propose the upgrade as soon as the Shell parachute has been running for 24 hours without any problems and the same upgrade has been successfully completed in the Westend testnet,” said Wood.
If everything goes according to plan, five parachain slot auctions will eventually start – every seven days at intervals. In particular, similar auctions on Polkadot could start “soon” afterwards.
“After Kusama’s first auctions were successfully completed, one would expect the Polkadot auctions to take place soon thereafter. When the final parameters of the auctions are set, they will be published along with the auction schedule, ”explained Wood.
In the meantime, Polkadot developers are already actively working on new features such as Parachute heads, Off-Chain XCMP and Spree.
