Nikolajsen would also like to offer all team players payment in digital currency. According to the sponsorship agreement, Nikolaj Rosenthal, star player from Rungsted, receives his salary in the ever-exploding cryptocurrency. Rosenthal will be the only professional sports personality in the world to be paid with Bitcoin.

Rosenthal said: “It’s really exciting to be able to be a pioneer with it” – or roughly translated: “It’s really exciting to be able to be a pioneer with it.”

Recently, the player showed an interest in trading virtual currencies. He has a full-time contract with the club for four years. In addition, according to the deal, his salary remains safe in the fiat value – in case the Bitcoin price suddenly falls. Talk about a no-lose deal.

Billionaires buying sports teams and sponsoring clubs are common. However, it gets interesting when it is done via Bitcoin profits. The Danish billionaire is the main reason behind the hockey stadium redesign and the salary agreement.

In response to why he decided to sponsor, Nikolajsen replied, “We’ve had a good year, and then you can look at your own tip and make a small contribution.” According to reports, Nikolajsen bought the sponsorship for an unpublished seven-figure sum ( in USD).

The official renaming event will take place on December 27, 2017. There the sponsorship contract is handed over, which signals the beginning of the three-year contract. The Bitcoin Suisse blog read: “A new center logo for the arena will be presented at the event, a massive, ice-covered gold and silver Bitcoin with a diameter of nine meters.”

Additionally, the hockey pucks will include bitcoin designs for the entire season. One of the trophies even contains a real Bitcoin, which means that it can also be collected for the later winners.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are surprising the world as they enter different fields of business. Cryptocurrencies and the technology behind them have already revolutionized the banking sector. Now the popular cryptocurrency has another glimpse into the world of sports.
