The first native Litecoin (LTC) Visa debit card is introduced by BlockCard.
Charlie Lee told Cointelegraph that this was her second attempt as the previous one failed: “We were previously working on a debit card with LitePay, but that failed when LitePay went out of business.”
Lee also made a distinction between this Litecoin-based debit card and other crypto cards that support the currency:
“There are other crypto debit cards out there today that support Litecoin, but they only support LTC funding. This card is inherently LTC, so the balance is held in LTC until you swipe the card. “
Although Litecoiners can already sign up for the card, the service itself won’t be available for a few weeks. In a lighter tone, Lee noted his opinion that there is no such thing as a “Litecoin maximalist”:
“I don’t think it even exists. Most Litecoiner also support and hold BTC. “
Users can make deposits in twelve of the most popular cryptocurrencies, including all major stablecoins. According to Lee, around 300 users have signed up so far. Meanwhile, Litecoin has consistently stayed in the top ten coins by market cap and has one of the biggest followers on social media.
