Two German girls among three avalanches killed in Italy, Europe News & Top Stories

ROM (AFP) – An avalanche on Saturday (December 28) killed a 35-year-old woman and two girls, one of them seven years old, in the Italian Alps near the border with Austria, media reported.

All three victims were German nationals.

The accident occurred around noon at 2,400 m altitude on the Val Senales glacier, reported Italian media.

A team of 70 rescue workers, supported by three helicopters, recovered the bodies.

The 35-year-old woman and seven-year-old girl could not be resuscitated, and the third victim died while being flown to hospital for treatment.

Two other people believed to be members of the same ski group were injured in the avalanche, but their lives were not in danger, the reports said.
