LOS ANGELES – Matt Lewis couldn’t have asked for a better and more memorable Friday night professional debut.
The Cosmos center-back scored Detroit City FC’s first goal in their 2-0 season opening win over the Los Angeles Force at the National Independent Soccer Association.
Lewis, on loan to Detroit for the spring season, scored in the 22nd minute when Roddy Green scored an insurance goal in added time of the second half.
Former Cosmos Kevin Venegas had a free kick from the edge of the box that found captain Stephen Carroll at the back post. Carroll’s pass over the goal line found an unmarked Lewis in front of the gate.
Detroit will host the Oakland Roots at their home game at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, March 21st at 3pm
